LAHORE Panic gripped leading downtown, shortly after three mysterious blasts took place at a busy road in New Anarkali area soon after Friday noon, eyewitnesses said. Three people sustained minor injuries while the blasts, which took place back-to-back outside (Gate No 3) Punjab University old campus, also partially damaged two motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw. Police investigators ruled out the possibility of any terror-related incident, and said that the gas pressure in sewerage pipeline caused blasts, occurred on the road near Bano Bazaar in New Anarkali area. Local shopkeepers said that people were leaving for Masajids to offer Juma prayers when the blasts occurred in the commercial area, creating panic in the entire locality. Three people including a boy sustained minor injuries as the blasts broke apart the gutter-manhole. A few pieces of stones also hit two motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw, parked nearby, while the sound of the blast was very powerful. Police sources claimed that it could be cracker blasts amid at creating panic in the business locality. They said that apparently it seemed that some miscreants implanted the explosive material of low intensity in the drainage pipeline that was explored later. Another police source termed the blasts as possible warning shots for the law enforcing agency by some militant group. The bomb disposal squad also rushed to the scene and collected evidences from the crime scene.
