It is internationally acclaimed that China’s style of foreign investment engages the local population and industries. However, there are certain elements that are baselessly propagating that in the case of CPEC, instead of benefitting the local population, China poses a competitive rather existential threat to Pakistan’s industries. China is one of the largest growing economies of the world and economists are aware that to work with such an economy is an opportunity that every country eyes for. Foreign investment and mega developmental projects that are part of CPEC will open avenues for the local population and industries, to work in the international market. Dealing with and strategising on how to better capitalise on the opportunities of international market is a feat of economists rather than an intellectual territory to be exploited with undue criticism.
