Uri Brigade Commander 'shifted out' after terror attack

NEW DELHI: Two weeks after the terror attack on the Uri brigade headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir, the brigade's commander has been "shifted out", defence sources revealed to news agency PTI.

The commander will stay "shifted out" until an investigation - currently underway - on the attack is concluded.

As many as 19 soldiers were killed when militants infiltrated the Line of Control (LoC) and opened fire on the brigade premises on September 18.

Meanwhile, the Army Chief, General Dalbir Singh is arriving in the Valley to review the border security situation in J&K in the wake of the tensions between Indian and Pak army.

"General Dalbir Singh is arriving here today. He will take stock of the prevailing situation on the borders in the state. He will receive a briefing at the Udhampur headquarters of the Northern Command," defence sources said.

This will be General Dalbir Singh's first visit to the state after India, as claimed by the Indian army and denied by the Pak army, carried out surgical strikes against 'terrorist launch pads' across the LoC on Wednesday night.
