LAHORE As many as 100 Indian fishermen arrested by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) for fishing inside Pakistans Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) were handed over to the Indian authorities at Wahga Border here on Tuesday. The said fishermen were among those 442 imprisoned in the jails of Sindh for violating territorial limits. Different civil society organisations had filed a constitutional petition for the release of the fishermen in the Supreme Court. The Sindh government had ordered for the release of the said fishermen on August 28 following which, they crossed over the border last day. The representatives of civil society including Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Senator Iqbal Haidar, Pak Fisher Folk, PILAR, South Asia Partnership Pakistan, Institute of Peace and Secular Studies and representatives of other NGOs were present. to witness the handing over of the fishermen to the Indian authorities. They appreciated this step of the Sindh government and urged the Indian government to reciprocate this step in the same spirit and release Pakistani fishermen arrested by them before the arrival of Eidul Fitr.
