LAHORE (PR) - Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) organised an Iftar Dinner in honour of its donors and well-wishers at the hospital the other day. Imran Khan, Chairman Board of Governors SKMT, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Faisal Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, while thanking the guests, apprised them of the hospitals ongoing and future projects. He informed the audience that the operating budget of the hospital for the year 2010 was Rs3.3 billion. We expect about half of this to be met from donations and Zakat and the other half from revenue services of the hospital. Over Rs7 billion has been spent on philanthropically supported patient care over the last 15 years. Although, we are facing not only financial problems but also shortage of qualified physicians and related staff yet the hospital remains dedicated to its mission to provide state-of-the-art treatment to its patients and this is only because of the support of the people like you, he added. Sultan informed that with the construction of the new Inpatient Unit, the hospital would be able to cater more patients. He said that construction of two cancer hospitals in Karachi and Peshawar was planned that would allow people of these provinces not to travel repeatedly to SKMCH&RC Lahore.
