Protest against match-fixing saga

ISLAMABAD Teachers and students of a private college held a protest demonstration here in front of National Press Club on Tuesday against PCB and Pakistan cricket team over their alleged involvement in match-fixing scandal, which was unearthed by a British newspaper. A large number of students took part in the demonstration. They were holding placards and shouting slogans against the players who were involved in the scandal. They demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Federal Minister for Sports Ijaz Jakharani to immediately remove PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt and Manager Pakistan Cricket Team Yawar Saeed from the Board. Ejaz Butt and Yawar Saeed are the key men behind this fixing scandal and without their support and backing, it was almost impossible for the players to even think about making any wrongdoing, one of the protestors said. These players, if found guilty, must be given exemplary punishment, their bank accounts be seized and Government must take control of their assets upon their return from England, another student said. He added that all guilty players must be handcuffed and sent to jail. Many students spoke on the occasion. They demanded of the President to call back the team as they have brought a bad name to the country. They warned the Government of countrywide protests if the culprits were not punished accordingly.
