KARACHI- Muttahida Qaumi Movement Coordination Committee on Friday alleged that MQM is being punished for its efforts towards sectarian harmony and bringing stability in the country, saying that patriotic people of Pakistan and the religious scholars should raise the voice on senseless killings of MQM office-bearers and workers in Karachi.Addressing a press conference at Khursheed Memorial Hall on the serial target killing of MQM activists in the metropolis, the MQM Coordination Committee member Raza Haroon questioned that why the bloodshed in the city continues unabated when thousands of the personnel of the police, Rangers and other law-enforcing agencies are deputed throughout and patrolling on roads and streets and Why not a single killer has been arrested so far? “We have lodged our protest with the government and the administration at every level and informed them about the state of unrest prevailing in the public. Innocent citizens have been left at mercy of killers, and they are busy in playing a deadly game of blood and fire in Karachi, which is also the hub of economic activity in the country.” He said that MQM will continue to raise its voice for the integrity and security of the country and for forging unity and sectarian harmony among the people and MQM would not stop from supporting the oppressed people in the country. Describing the reason behind the killing of MQM workers in Karachi, he said that the workers and office-bearers of MQM are being targeted in Karachi because of the party’s stand against rising sectarian violence. Raza Haroon claimed that it was only MQM Chief Altaf Hussain who had raised his voice against all sorts of violence, extremism and terrorism and condemned the genocide of Shia community. He said that Altaf Hussain and the MQM not only protested against the scourge of sectarianism ever since the beginning of their political struggle but also played in eliminating sectarian strife and forging unity among the people. He said that Shiite people in Pakistan were put to death in a merciless manner after being pulled off from buses and verification of their identities. These barbaric killings are caused by sectarianism and have been continuing for some period now. “The teachings of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the principles of the Founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah are being negated in this manner, which is highly condemnable,” he added. The MQM leader said that MQM believed that the elements that are killing innocent people out of sectarian malice are making a deep conspiracy against Islam, the Muslims and Pakistan. On the one hand, the Shiite people have been killed in different cities of the country while on the other excesses, and injustices committed against non-Muslims have cast a pall of insecurity and restiveness on the religious minorities living in Pakistan. Many Hindu families have left for India because of the prevailing circumstances. The unfortunate incidents of imprisonment of a Christian girl Rimsha Masih in Islamabad and the forceful evacuation of Christian people from the area have smeared the image of Pakistan internationally. He said that Altaf Hussain had a bold stance against the barbaric killings of the Shiite people in the country on August 22, 2012 and informed the public about the religious creed of the Quaid-i-Azam citing historical reference in order to create sectarian harmony. He further said that MQM chief, the party leadership and workers are constantly working for the sectarian harmony in the country but the anti-Pakistan elements that want to “kill” Pakistan by fuelling the sectarianism did not like the positive efforts of the MQM for stopping sectarian bloodshed, and they started killing MQM workers. He alleged that these are the same elements that have pushed the country in the inferno of religious extremism in utter disregard of the principles of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that four MQM workers have fallen victim to the incidents of terrorism in a period of three days. Their only crime was that they were working for diffusing sectarian tensions on the appeal of their leader Altaf Hussain. They wanted to spread the message of brotherhood and peace for making Pakistan stronger. He appealed to President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Rehman Malik, Sindh governor and chief minister to get the continuous killings of the MQM workers, and all other innocent citizens stopped. The killers should be given exemplary punishments, and concrete and practical steps should be taken for protecting the life and property of citizens. The MQM Coordination Committee members Waseem Aftab, Qasim Ali Reza and others also present in the press conference.
