ISLAMABAD - The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved twenty one projects worth Rs 8.912 billion.

The meeting of the CDWP was chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal, approved Rs. 1413.01 million for the Evacuation of Power from 1320 MW Imported Coal Based Power Plant near Sahiwal.

The main objective of the project is evacuation of 1,320 MW of power from proposed Coal Fired Power Plant near Sahiwal to upcountry load centers. Detailed scope of work is (i) laying of transmission line (0.5 km) and installation of associated equipments, and (ii) Addition of 600 MVA 500/200 Kv transformer along with allied equipment.

A project of Land acquisition for Converter Stations & Grounding Stations at both ends of 600kV HVDC Transmission Line from Matiari to Lahore (CPEC Project) worth Rs. 2,353.00 million was also approved. The main objective of the project is acquisition of a land for Converter Stations and Grounding/ Electrode Stations at Matiari and Lahore for transfer of about 4000 MW power from south to upcountry load centers.

Land Acquisition for converter stations and grounding stations at both ends of 600 KV HVDC Transmission Line from Port Qasim to Faisalabad to be completed at the cost of Rs.2476.50 million was also approved.

The Acquisition of Land for Railway Container Yard, Station and Railway Line from Sea Port to Coastal Highway at Gwadar worth Rs. 1,332.00 million got approved. The project envisages acquisition of 412 acres of land for railway container yard from Gwadar Port to Gwadar Railway Container yard which will have capacity to handle about 500 Railway Bogie type freight wagons. The scope of work also includes construction of Railway rest house including allied facilities etc.

Similarly Rs 2,190.00 million were approved for the Rehabilitation & Extension of Concrete Sleeper Factories at Khanewal & Sukkur. The project envisages to enhance the production capacity of both factories at Khanewal and Sukkur. With the proposed rehabilitation and extension, the production capacity shall be enhanced to 450,000 & 300,000 per annum as compared to current 225,000 and 200,000 sleepers respectively.

For the dualisation and rehabilitation of Track between Port Qasim and Bin Qasim stations Rs. 1,611.052 million has been approved. The project is proposed to be implemented for efficient transportation of coal to the power plants at Jamshoro, Qadirabad (Sahiwal), Muzaffargarh and Rahim Yar Khan. The land required for construction of additional line/track will be provided by the port Qasim authorities. Rs. 1000 million has been allocated this financial year in PSDP budget.

The CDWP approved Rs. 13,758.00 million for the Construction of Yakmach – Kharan Road Project (200 km). The project envisages construction 200 Km blacktop road in district Chaghi and passing through Dostain Wadh in district Washuk before terminating at Kharan. The scope of work also includes construction of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, drainage and ancillary works.

For the project of Strengthening of Academic & Research Facilities at University of Health Sciences, Lahore Rs. 813.171 million has been approved. University is targeting to increase the annual enrolment of students in campus based educational programs to 1145 by the year 2018.

The present project is aimed at developing infrastructure and allied facilities at KSK Campus for the expansion of existing departments of Basic Medical Sciences.

The project of the Completion of Leftover work on Academic Blocks at Hazara University Mansehra Rs. 662.179 million has been approved. The project envisages construction of 24 lecture rooms, 10 computer labs, procurement of ICT equipments and furniture for all the eight blocks etc. Rs. 250 million in PSDP has been allocated this financial year.

For the Development of Khyber Medical University, Peshawar Rs. 735.564 million has been granted. The PC-1 of the project was approved in 2008 by CDWP with implementation period of five years. The quantifiable targets of the project are civil works, purchase of lab equipment, teaching aids, furniture, books & journals etc. etc. Rs. 399 million has been allocated in PSDP budget so far.

For the Coal Transportation by Rail to Jamshoro Power Plant at the cost of Rs.10,393.822 million has been approved. Award of 800 scholarships to students from Indian-held Kashmir under Prime Minister’s Directive at the cost of Rs.940.97 million.

An allocation of Rs.4201.161 million for the award of 300 scholarships to students from Afghanistan, has also been approved by the CDWP.

For the Prime Minister’s Youth Training Scheme 2015-18 Rs.24,490 million has been approved..

For the Construction of Accommodation, Training and Administrative Block and barracks for establishment of Rapid Response Force for Islamabad Capital Territory Police Islamabad at the cost of Rs.1853.105 million has been approved.

Construction of accommodation for 1xSSD Wing at Shakas at the cost of Rs.410.517 million, and the Construction of Residential Accommodation for National Accountability Bureau (KPK) at Hyatabad Peshawar at the cost of Rs.524.186 million have also been approved by the CDWP.

Ghabir Dam Chakwal at the cost of Rs.5,665.493 million and engineering design of Jalalpur Irrigation Project at the cost of Rs.497.876 million were also granted approval.

Economic Transformation Initiatives in Gilgit Balochistan at the cost of Rs.12,315.4 million, and special Programme for Strengthening SPS Facilities and Quality Inspection Services in compliance with WTO – establishment of an integrated animal and plant health inspection services at the cost of Rs.472.038 million also approved.
