KARACHI - Sindh Chief Secretary Siddique Memon on Monday directed anti-corruption department to register FIRs against 41 government officials of 11 different departments, and arrest them as per the law.
He gave these directions while presiding over a meeting of the Anti-Corruption Committee-1 at his office in Sindh Secretariat. The meeting was also attended by Anti Corruption Chairman Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and other officials. The meeting approved registration of cases against local government department officials for making fake property and other documents. These officials included Town Municipal Office Latifabad officials Zafar Baig Mughal, Arshad Pathan, Yaseen Shah, Qazi Naseem, Qazi Nehal, TMO Sobho Dero Anwar Ali Baloch and his lower staff including Imdad Ali Shah, Afzal Hussain and Qadir Buksh Kalwar over Rs 29 million corruption and Karachi Municipal Corporation DDO Imran Qadeer, Khalid Hashmi, Nadeem Sufyan and clerks Shahid Iqbal, Saleem and Maseehuddin.
A case was also approved against Karachi Water and Sewerage Board officials Izharuddin, Ejaz Alam, Abdul Qadir, Arif Farooq and Safiullah Khan for running illegal hydrants in Manghopir area of the metropolis.
Three cases were also approved against the agriculture department officials including EDO Agriculture Khadim Ali Tunio, EDO Khuda Baksh and accounts officer Mazhar Ali Soomro over embezzlement of Rs2.5 million while a case would also be registered against Liaquat Ali Khanzada, Mohammad Roshan Soomro, Aslma Khanzada and Anwar Hussain in Sindh Seed Corporation over corruption in sale and purchase of government seeds.
A case would also be initiated against Secretary Market Committee New Subzi Mandi Karachi Ghulam Qadir Chakrani, Mohammad Ibrahim and others for illegal allotment of shops in the market.
Two cases would be initiated in Excise Department that included a case against Ejaz Ahmed, Shaukat Channa, Sheraz Gul, Athar Saeed and Mohammad Zafar for making fake vehicle documents in Motor Registration Wing Karachi and Waheed Ahmed Shaikh of the Motor Registration Wing Jacabobad.
A case in food department included irregularities in distribution of 250 metric ton wheat done by food inspector Khairpur Mohammad Ali Ujjan. Another case would be registered against Sindh Cooperative Society officials Saleemuddin Chishti, Athar Hussain, Abdul Aziz and others for illegal allotment of land. The chief secretary has directed the anti-corruption officials to register cases against these officials and initiate action against them and also urged the department to compile and send him names and list of corrupt officials in their departments.
The anti-corruption chairman Mumtaz Ali Shah said that the arrests of the officials would be made after the inquiry against them would be completed. “We will pace up the action against corrupt elements in the government department and bring them to justice for inflicting a loss to national exchequer,” he said.
