LAHORE - A jail doctor will determine the fitness of a convict, who is paralysed due to severe illness and due to be in executed.

According to his counsel, the prisoner, Abdul Basit, was paralysed from the waist down and used a wheelchair due to an illness he contracted in prison, for which he did not receive adequate treatment.

The Lahore High Court on Monday sought reply from Faisalabad jail officials regarding the procedure of hanging disabled convicts, as no instruction to this effect has been provided in the country’s jail manual.

Abdul Basit, whose execution had earlier been stayed by a court, filed the petition through his counsel Barrister Sarah Bilal.
