NAB approaches apex court against transfer of Sharif family corruption references

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a petition in the apex court against the transfer of Sharif family corruption references in another court.

Petitioner took the plea that two sub- judice cases against Sharif family including Al Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship owner’s reference have been transferred in the court of Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik on orders of Islamabad High Court (IHC). Before this, Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir was hearing these two cases.

Petitioner stated that NAB is an affected party in the IHC decision and the ruling for transfer of both corruption cases against Sharif family in another court cannot be maintained.

NAB prayed the court to set aside the decision of IHC and order for shifting the cases to the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir for hearing.

It is pertinent to mention that AC Judge Muhammad Bashir had already given a decision in Avenfield Reference case on July 6. 2018 according to which former prime minister NawazSharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and his son-in-law captain Safdar (retd) were handed down 11, 8 and one year jail term respectively.
