PM invites PML-N to rejoin Federal Cabinet

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif were in complete unison on the reconciliatory course and once again pledged that they would support each other in smooth functioning of the incumbent political dispensation. The meeting between the two was held at Prime Minister House on Wednesday morning where host of issues, with special reference to the political situation in Punjab after the restoration of the PML-N government in the province, came under discussion. The sources privy to the deliberations of the meeting disclosed to TheNation that Prime Minister Gilani had asked the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is also President of PML-N, to rejoin the federal cabinet as all the reasons for which they had quitted it, now stand removed. According to the sources, Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that he would talk to PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and the decision in this regard would be taken after consultation with the party leadership. Similarly, the PPPs decision to remain part of the Punjab government was deferred till the return of President Asif Ali Zardari from his foreign trip and Prime Minister Gilani neither accepted nor declined the offer of PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif to remain part of his government in the province. The Prime Minister also said that unopposed elections of Senate, re-instatement of judges followed by the restoration of the Punjab government were the positive developments which would usher in a new era of political reconciliation, thus helping the country regain political stability. The Prime Minister reiterated that the verdict of the people of Pakistan at every level should be respected. He hoped that now the time had come when all political forces should join hands to alter the destiny of the country and thwart the designs of the detractors in unison. While praising the positive role played by the Prime Minister during the recent political impasse, Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif conveyed to the Prime Minister best wishes from Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and expressed the hope that both the major political parties of the country would work together and focus their energies for the betterment of the people as well as progress of the country. President PML-N also extended his partys fullest cooperation for the promotion of democracy and strengthening of state institutions in the country. The Prime Minister apprised the PML-N leadership that the Speaker would consult the parliamentary leaders for the formation of the Special Committee of the Parliament to make recommendations for the implementation of the matters concerning the Charter of Democracy. The PML-N leader welcomed the initiative and committed their full support for the implementation of the proposals contained in the Charter of Democracy as signed by both the former prime ministers. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Kashmir Affairs Qamaruz Zaman Kaira and Leader of Opposition in NA Ch Nisar Ali Khan were also present in the meeting. The Prime Minister also hosted lunch in their honour. Later, Shahbaz Sharif while talking to media persons after luncheon meeting with the Prime Minister said that it is up PPP whether it joins the Punjab cabinet or not and PML-N would accept whatever decision they make in this regard. PML-N would accept the PPP decision about joining the Punjab cabinet, Shahbaz Sharif said. He also reiterated the commitment of his partys full support to the implementation of the Charter of Democracy signed by former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif. All the problems will automatically be resolved if the Charter of Democracy is implemented, Shahbaz added. About his luncheon meeting with Prime Minister Gilani, Shahbaz lauded the role of the Prime Minister in defusing the recent crisis and said that there was a complete agreement between the two regarding provincial mandate, elimination of terrorism and political stability. I thank Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for playing highly positive role in restoring the judges and ensuring the independence of judiciary. No doubt, he made utmost efforts to defuse the political crisis and that would help strengthen democracy in the country, he said. He also said the political situation in Punjab has become normal and now both the PPP and the PML-N would concentrate their efforts for resolving the public issues. Shahbaz Sharif said that the PML-N would offer all-out cooperation to the federal government for bringing the country out of all crises and putting it back to the track of progress and prosperity.
