KARACHI – Members of the MQM Coordination Committee on Sunday called on Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik to take stock of the brewing law and order situation in the business-hub city.

MQM leaders Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Raza Haroon, and Federal Minister Babar Khan Ghauri informed Malik about the killing of their party workers. They expressed deep sorrow over the targeted killing of MQM office-bearers and activists in the metropolis. The increasing extortion incidents also drew apprehensions of the committee members.

They told the interior minister that the defunct People’s Amn Committee and the ANP were behind the killing of their party activists. They also informed Malik that they were not satisfied with the government’s action against terrorists. Malik assured them that the government would not allow terrorists to sabotage the peace of Karachi, saying he had directed police and rangers to initiate an indiscriminate action. He told the MQM leaders that foreign elements were behind the unrest and anarchy in Karachi.
