450 of 862 submit nomination papers

MULTAN - Out of a total of 862 candidates, who got nomination papers for national and provincial assembly seats, as many as 450 submitted their papers as the paper submission phase ended at 12:00am on the night between Sunday and Monday. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that the process of scrutiny of nomination papers had begun and it would continue till April 7. The candidates are likely to face tough scrutiny as the ECP looks determined to strictly implement Article 62/63 of the constitution.
Local ECP officials said that as many as 190 candidates submitted their nomination papers for national and provincial assembly seats on the last day. Prominent among those who have so far submitted their nomination papers are vice chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi, secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Liaqat Baloch, former federal minister Malik Mukhtar Awan, former MNAs Rana Mahmoodul Hassan, Sheikh Tariq Rasheed, Ali Moosa Gillani, Syed Abdul Qadir Gillani, Javed Ali Shah, Malik Ishaq Bucha, PPPP South Punjab general secretary Malik Aamir Dogar, Liaqat Dogar and former federal minister Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan.
Meanwhile, those who submitted their nomination papers on the last day included Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani, Syed Ali Qasim Gillan, Malik Zulfiqar Raan, Zulfiqar Ali, Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Ch. Fesco BoD chief quits: Nadeem Aftab Sindhu has voluntarily resigned from the office of Chairman Fesco Board of Directors (BoD).
He was heading Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) BoD for the last 2 years.
He is contesting election on PPP platform from PP-64 and hence he decided to voluntarily resign from the office.
In a statement, he clarified that there was no constitutional bar to resign from the office, however, he himself decided to resign from the office so as to avoid any unnecessary criticism and political exploitation.
