RAWALPINDI – A joint wedding ceremony of 37 couples belonging to poor families was organised at Dongi Kalan, Doltala. According to details, Minhaj Welfare Foundation (MWF) arranged joint marriage ceremony of 37 couples of poor families, informed Tehrik-e-Minhaj-ul-Quran (TMQ) spokesman on Monday.

It is pity that in our patriarchal society a daughter’s marriage, a sacred religious obligation, is still considered a burden on parents. Dowry is an evil that puts an extra burden on girls’ parents. MWF, under the supervision of Shaikh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, fighting against this menace and muster resources to organize congregational marriages of the girls of the downtrodden and deserving families.

MWF was the first NGO to initiate a project such as “Collective Marriages” in Pakistan. Ever since the inaugural ceremony of collective marriage project, 1100 couples have got married in various cities, the spokesman added.

This ceremony was the fruit of continuous struggles of Chauhdry Javaid Iqbal (President Pakistan Awami Tehreek), Raja Hassan Akhtar (Nazim MWF) and Qazi Ehsaan Ghafoor (Nazim Youth). MWF gave 100,000 to every couple and also arranged a feast for 5,000 people. This ceremony was presided by Peer Syed Jabir Ali Shah Hamdani (Bhangali Shareef) and Nawab Khurram Nawaz Ganda was the chief guest. Chauhdry Jameel (Ameer Minhaj Asian Council), Anar Khan Gondal (Vice President Pubjab), Fakhar Zaman Adil (President of Minhaj-ul-Quran Dubai), Mahmood-ul-Haq Quraishi, Chauhdry Ishaaq, Dr. Wajid Mahmood, Qazi Idrees Zafran and Sohail Abbasi were also the guests.
