KARACHI - Stocks closed at record high with investors’ interest in stocks across the board ahead of quarter-end earning announcements after oil marketing companies margins raised up to 13pc on oil products, raising valuations in OMC sector.

At local equity market, benchmark KSE 100-share index posted a fresh gain of 228.80 points to finish the day at 18272.11 points compared to 18043.31 points of last working day on Friday.

Analyst said strong data on urea and cement sales, speculations ahead of CPI Inflation for March’13 expected to be below 7pc played a catalyst role in bullish sentiments at KSE amid concerns for rising circular debt issues in energy sector, rising fiscal debt and uncertainty over economic impact of IMF loan repayments.

KSE allshare-index went up by 109.69 points or 0.86 percent to close the day at 12912.15 points, KSE 30-share index grew by 174.14 points or 1.23 per cent to end the session at 14382.52 points while KMI 30-share index extended by 498.13 points or 1.58 points to conclude the day at 32096.85 points.

Market traded 171.013 million shares after opening at 204.391 million shares and the value of traded shares climbed to Rs 7.281 billion from Rs 4.972 billion. Capitalization of stock market settled at Rs 4.484 trillion compared to Rs 4.446 trillion of previous session.

Trading took place in 332 companies where gainers held strong lead over the losers by 214 to 98 while the values of 20 stocks remained intact. UniLever Pak was the biggest price gainer of the day, up by Rs 439 to Rs 12689, followed by Unilever Food, increased by Rs 49 to Rs 4299. Colgate Palmolive and Indus Dyeing were the biggest losers of the day, decreased by Rs 48.16 to Rs 1780 and Rs 22.20 to Rs 426.80 respectively.

Active list was topped by Mapleleaf Cement with 20.948 million shares, up by Rs 1 to Rs 18.76. B.O Punjab was on the second position with 12.563 million shares, up by Rs 1 to Rs 9.22. It was followed by Dera Ghazi Khan Cement with 12.105 million shares, higher by Rs 1.86 to Rs 71.13, Engro Corporation with 12.054 million shares, added Rs 5.4 to Rs 134.40 and P.I.A.C (A) with 8.930 million shares.
