ISLAMABAD - Agricultural land reforms have not been taken seriously and no legislation has been done in this regard despite the judicial orders, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked while hearing a petition on land reforms.

An eight-member larger bench heard the petition filed by Abid Hassan Manto here on Monday.

The petitioner held the stance that Shariat Appellant Bench cannot interpret the Constitution and it has only to discuss Shariat.

The judicial verdict has violated fundamental rights stated in Article 24 of the Constitution, the petitioner Abid Manto maintained.

At this, the Chief Justice said that the bench has to decide whether the Court is the right forum for discussing such a matter or not.

Abid Hassan observed that if any of the verdicts clashes with the basic Articles of the Constitution, it could be reviewed, and challenged under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution.

Afterwards, the apex court adjourned hearing of the case for three weeks.
