The Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday dismissed the petition regarding appointment of caretaker Prime Minister and Chief Minister without consultation.

A single-member bench of LHC comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial resumed the hearing of case and dismissed the plea against appointment of caretaker PM and CM Punjab without taking stakeholders into confidence.

During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that under the Constitution the president is the head of the state and bound to take the prime minister's advice.

Justice Bandial added that the president had played a neutral role in the selection of the caretaker set up.

The Election Commission (EC) selected Mir Hazar Khan Khoso as caretaker prime minister after a parliamentary committee over the issue failed to develop consensus.

While in Punjab, the provincial parliamentary committee selected senior journalist Najam Sethi as the caretaker chief minister of the province according to the constitution.
