SIALKOT - Political rivals are seemed lining up for a fierce electoral battle in NA-110 against PML-N stalwart as PTI and JI are likely to join hands to clinch the seat from the four-time winner Khwaja Muhammad Asif.

Reportedly both the parties are actively considering a proposal to bringing a joint strong candidate against Kh Asif in the constituency being considered a stronghold of the PML-N in district Sialkot. In Sialkot city, the PTI and JI are expected to divide the PML-N's vote in constituency (NA-110 Sialkot City-I) ahead of the upcoming general elections. Though the constituency has been a stronghold of the PML-N, it seems now opponents of Kh Asif getting united to give a tough time to PML-N stalwart who has been a four-time winner from here.

The PML-Q has already announced political and moral support for PPP's Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan in constituency (NA-110 Sialkot City-I).

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has also fielded its strong candidate Arshad Mehmood Baggu (former MPA) against Kh Asif here while, Eng Imran Ashraf who has recently quit the PML-N and joined the PTI due to alleged "political rudeness" of Kh Asif is also contesting general elections against erstwhile senior leader in (NA-110 Sialkot City-I).

On the other hand, PML-N big gun Kh Muhammad Asif is contesting the upcoming general elections from NA-110 and provincial assembly constituency PP-123 Sialkot City-III). In the past Eng Imran Ashraf had been elected as MPA two times from the constituency on the PML-N ticket in 2002 and 2008 general elections. But, Kh Asif's alleged 'rude and sluggish' aptitude forced him (Imran Ashraf) to quit the party and join the PTI. His joining PTI would definitely dent the PML-N vote bank in Sialkot city. Similarly, the JI will also affect the PML-N vote bank in Sialkot. According to local independent political observers, PPP's Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan could take advantage of the most likely division of PML-N votes here. She vowed to bring freshness in the constituency and to give tough time to Kh Asif, besides, pledging to get the Sialkot people rid of the monopolistic styled politics of his rival.

Talking to the newsmen at his office here, JI candidate for NA-110 Arshad Mehmood Baggu said that the JI was also considering a proposal to be united with PTI against Kh Asif. He said that there was no doubt that the PML-N leader had been a four-time winner, this time he would face a tough time. He said that people of the district wished change and bringing "freshness" in the political scenario of Sialkot city. Arshad Baggu also pointed out that the JI was ready to bring a joint candidate with PTI against Kh Asif.

Meanwhile, PTI candidate Eng Imran Ashraf said that he was in the field with full of his energies to defeat Kh Asif in NA-110.

PTI District General Secretary Kh Muhammad Arif said that there was a proposal to field a joint candidate of the JI and PTI against Kh Asif. However, a final decision in this regard will be made by the provincial leaders of both the parties," he added.

When contacted, PML-N stalwart Kh Asif said that he was well aware of day by day changing political scenario in his electoral constituency. He claimed to have a "trump card", saying that the PML-N was in again with advanced political strategies here. He was confident of winning this seat for the fifth consecutive time here. He added that Sialkot had been a stronghold of the PML-N and it would make a clean sweep in the general elections in the district.
