ISLAMABAD

The Federal Board of Revenue on Monday said Central Verification Cell would provide details to the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the candidates who have filed nomination papers as NOCs (no objection certificates) from any field officer is not acceptable to the commission.

Talking to The Nation, Israr Rauf, spokesperson for FBR, said field officers are not authorised to issue any NOC regarding the candidates who have filed nomination papers for this is the responsibility of the Central Verification Cell of the FBR which is working round the clock. Rauf further said that Central Verification Cell would only provide details regarding such candidates as were asked by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Answering a question, Israr Rauf reiterated that an NOC issued by a field officer would not be acceptable to ECP. He also rejected the reports that FBR has caught red handed its officials issuing no objection certificates (NOCs) to dozens of candidates. All returning officers have also been informed that they must contact the FBR’s Central Verification Cell in case of any query instead of contacting field officers of the FBR.
