National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved raise in power tariff by 63 paisas per unit.
Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had filed application seeking increase in power tariff by 67 paisas per unit and its hearing took place under member tariff Naeem Khawaja here Tuesday.
CPPA took the plea during the hearing that power was generated costing Rs 5.4 billion during March. Cost of fuel incurred in this regard stood at 43.38 billion. However NEPRA had fixed Fuel Adjustment Surcharge (FAS) at Rs 7.64 per unit while a sum of Rs 8.31 was actually incurred on account of FAS in the production of electricity.
NEPRA accorded approval to increase power tariff by paisas 63 per unit after the hearing of the plea.
The increased tariff will however not apply to KESC and domestic consumers consuming electricity upto 50 units.
