LAHORE - A fire erupted in a multi-storey commercial plaza near Kalma Chowk here on Tuesday morning was successfully doused by the fire fighting teams. No loss of life was reported in the incident.
The fire fighting teams rescued six persons who were trapped in the building. Around seven fire tenders and Rescue 1122 teams took part in the operation to extinguish the fire.
Six offices at the sixth floor of plaza were destroyed in the wake of fire.
According to reports, a leakage of gas through LPG cylinder prompted the fire across the fourth floor of the building.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of fire incident and sought a report from administration. He also ordered an inquiry into the incident. Immediately after receiving information about the fire at Century Tower, the Chief Minister directed district administration and Rescue-1122 to control the fire and rescue the entrapped people.
The chief minister also sent his helicopter for relief activities. He further directed concerned departments and administration to evolve a comprehensive strategy for controlling the incidents of fire at plazas and buildings and safety measures should be adopted for this purpose.
