ISLAMABAD - Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will investigate corruption allegations against its own officials for allegedly receiving Rs 8 million as bribe to give a clean chit to former chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Farkhand Iqbal in corruption cases.
Additional Director General of FIA Liaquat Ali Khan had been asked by Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mahmood to probe a complaint against FIA Inspector Alamdar Hussain and report to the committee.
Senator Talha Mahmood has received a complaint that Inspector Alamdar had allegedly taken Rs 8 million from Farkhand Iqbal to give him a clean chit in some cases of embezzlement being probed against him. The compliant said that Alamdar was allegedly demanding Rs 3 million more from the accused to give him a clean chit in a misappropriation case of allotment of plots in Sector G-13.
During a meeting of the committee here on Tuesday, chairman of the standing committee directed Additional DG FIA to probe the entire allegations against the official and report to his office within five working days.
FIA on January 6 had arrested Farkhand on a number allegations of misappropriations and misuse of authority as CDA chairman including allotment of 12 plots in Sector I-8 to housing foundations while violating rules and exceeding the quota of the foundation.
Iqbal was appointed CDA chairman in December 2011 and removed from his office in October 2012 by the then PPP government.
At the time of getting the physical remand of Iqbal from a local court, FIA had told the court that the former CDA boss allegedly allotted 12 plots illegally in Sector 1-8 which caused Rs 360 million loss to the national exchequer.
During the investigations, FIA had found that Iqbal made a number of illegal allotments and gave contracts to some contractors while violating rules. FIA had also found that Iqbal accumulated assets of millions during his tenure as chairman of the authority.
