KARACHI - The annual examinations of class IX and X (Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSC) 2014 are starting in Sindh today (Wednesday), under the head of different secondary education boards, including the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK).
The Sindh government has imposed section 144 at all exam centers to make the examinations fair and transparent, while police and rangers are instructed to ensure foolproof security of candidates and teachers during the examinations. As many as 325,000 male and female candidates (both regular and private) will be appearing in the SSC Part-I and Part-II Annual Exam 2014 only in Karachi.
According to BSEK Controller Examination Noman Ahsan, around 295 examination centres have been setup in the city where 325,000 male and female candidates will be accommodated. The total numbers of candidates are divided into different faculties.
As many as 137,708 candidates got registered themselves into 10th class science group, 136,075 in 9th class science, 14,674 in 10 class general group, 18,239 in 9th class general. While 11,176 candidates are enrolled in 10th class private general group and 6393 in 9th class private general group.
“Following the directions of Sindh Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Nisar Khurro, this is the first time that BSEK has setup five examination centers in the public colleges, including Govt. Islamia Arts and Commerce College, Govt. Islamia Science College, Liaquat College Malir, Jamia Miliya College and Govt. Degree Girls College Gulshan-e-Iqbal College. However, one centre will also be setup in Karachi Central Jail,” the controller said.
The BSEK Administration has already decided that all important measures will be taken to hold the examinations transparent in the city. The board has formed different committees consisting of senior teachers to pay surprise visits to the examination centers and report back to chairman. Students will be not allowed to carry mobile phone in the exam centres. The teams have been authorized to take steps for curbing use of unfair means during the examination.
On the other hand, President, Peak Private Schools Association, Sindh, Haider Ali has demanded that government to depute two police constable and two rangers personnel at each examination centre so that the activities of the cheating mafia could be curbed down. He also demanded that government to make one assistant deputy commissioner responsible for the five examination centres.
