LAHORE - Acting swiftly on a letter written by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to all provincial heads of government, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed administration as well as the departments concerned to take effective measures for bringing down transport fares and prices of the essential items.

Shahbaz said the PML-N government was determined to provide maximum relief to the masses and the benefits of stability in the value of rupee and reduction in petroleum prices would surely be passed on to them.

The chief minister said that Punjab government was already implementing a comprehensive programme for raising the living standard of the people and sincere efforts were being made for the welfare of low-income people. He directed concerned departments and administrations to harmonize transport fares and prices of essential articles with the recent decrease in petroleum prices so as to provide relief to the masses. He directed that price control committees set up at Tehsil, town and district levels be fully mobilised while teams of special magistrates should be constituted for ensuring sale of daily use items at the fixed rate. Shahbaz said the interest of people would be fully protected and no one would be allowed to exploit the citizens. He said law would immediately come into action against the elements involved in profiteering.

The chief minister directed departments concerned to take solid measures for reducing transport fares and prices of essential items and submit him report. He said provision of quality daily use items to the masses would be ensured and the role of elected representatives as well as administration was of vital importance for this purpose. He said people had high expectations from PML-N government and it would be fulfilled at any cost. Shahbaz said the elements involved in overcharging deserved no leniency and immediate action should be taken against them.

He said economic situation was improving due to solid measures taken by the PML-N government. He said every step of the government was directed towards betterment of the people. The chief minister said those showing good performance in the entire process of price control mechanism would be encouraged.
