Farhan, Sammer clinch 2nd DCO Lahore International Squash Cup titles

Farhan Zaman and Sammer Anjum annexed the 2nd DCO Lahore International Squash Cup 2016 male and female titles after defeating their respective opponents in the finals played here at the Punjab Squash Complex on Friday.
In the male final, both Farhan Zaman and Tayyab Aslam played some great squash. But Tayyab then started playing his natural game to take the first game 11-5. Farhan then bounced back in style and went on to win the next four games 11-13, 11-2, 11-2, 11-8 in 48 minutes to clinch the title.
In female final, Sammer Anjum of SNGPL beat spirited Riffat Khan of Wapda. Riffat, who lost first edition of DCO Lahore Cup, once again failed to handle the pressure of the final and lost the title battle against high-flying Sammer. But the players in great spirits and fought for each and every point but at the end, Sammer utilized her skills and experience well and defeated Riffat in a closely-contested final as she beat Riffat by 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.
Punjab Squash Association (PSA) president Amjad Noon was chief guest at the final and he along with Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser distributed prized and shields among the top performers. District Sports Officer Tanveer Abass, his entire team and a large number of squash players and lovers were also present on the occasion.
In the concluding ceremony, Lahore Squash Association (LSA) secretary Mamoon Khan thanked DCO Lahore Usman Younis for his sincere efforts for the promotion of squash and helping it to regain its lost glory. “DCO Lahore is very keen to support squash and this is the second time in the last three months, he ordered to organise to help the game further flourish in the country. He very kindly allocated a handsome cash prize of US Dollars 10,000 which was duly distributed among the players.”
