TOBA TEK SINGH-Pirmahal area farmers stopped work on a motorway project as a protest against non-payment of consideration by National highway Authority (NHA) against the farmland it had acquired for the construction of interchange.
It had acquired the land for Peshawar-Lahore-Karachi motorway Pirmahal interchange near Pirmahal on Lahore-Abdul Hakeem section.
They staged the protest demonstration on the road and chanted slogans against the NHA and government while they were also carrying banners containing their demands. They told reporters that one year had passed but NHA was not giving them their consideration. On the occasion, NHA officials scuffled with the media persons who were covering the protest while they also snatched a mobile phone set of a TV channel reporter.
During February, the farmers of Rajana area had also staged a similar protest demonstration on the under construction Rajana interchange on the same motorway and same issue.
