The Supreme Court's decision to ban poultry feed having traces of pork meat and bones has saved the belief of millions of Pakistani Muslims and protected their rights. As a Muslim-majority state, the government of Pakistan was duty bound to institute checks to ensure something like that had not gone through our import regime. That they did not do so is just another proof of their general laxity. Although, SC's decision would virtually ensure availability of Halal chicken feed for poultry industry, there is more to be done to save the populous from consuming imported beef, chicken or dairy products that may be contaminated by contact or feed that is not deemed proper in our religion. The Supreme Court may take notice of the fact that the government of Pakistan has placed no restriction to ensure that imported beef, chicken or dairy were not fed feed containing pork. -JAWAID ALI, Karachi, via e-mail, July 25.
