KARACHI - More than 200 teachers of the CDGK runs schools including Primary School Teachers (PST), Junior School Teachers (JST) and Sindhi Language Teachers (SLT) who have been included in the (left out) list, mean eligible for promotion have been deprived of their legitimate right due to the inefficiency and lethargy of the department, The Nation learnt on Sunday.
Informed sources in the CDGK Education Department alleged that a meeting to consider the promotion cases of these teaches who had been included in the (left out) list, was due on July 12 (last), but did not hold so far. The meeting has been delayed deliberately to keep the promotion cases of senior teachers pending, they alleged.
The sources said that those having political connections and other meaning full resources managed to get promotion against the merit. But those senior teachers who qualify and deserve promotion are still deprived of their rig-ht, they added.
A lady teacher, awaiting promotion in HST cadre, told The Nation that she was on merit according to her seniority and fulfilled all other requirement but still deprived of promotion since long.
She said that the authorities concerned did not say why she had not been promoted when a number of junior teachers were promoted this year.
It was after this injustice, when panic spread among senior teachers that those junior teachers who were ineligible but promoted due their political connections.
They protested and made hue and cry against this great injustice and to silent them the Education Department included their names in the left out list.
(A term use in the Education Department for those teachers who have right to promotion but deprive without any reason so far).
EDO Education Ibrahim Kumber constituted a committee, comprising senior officials of the department to consider promotion cases of those teachers included in the left out list. The committee heads by DO Sports Slamee Awan, consists of Deputy Education Officer (Elementary) Abul Rauf, ADO Education Mirza Arshad and Mehmood Leghari, President Govt Secondary School Teachers Association Karachi.
The sources said that the committee was responsible for the delay in the promotion of teachers who had been included in the left out list. A meeting of the committee, scheduled for July 12, to decided promotion cases of more than 200 teachers has not taken place so far, without any solid reason, they added.
They said that the department had realised gravity of the situation arose after the inordinate delay in the promotion of senior teachers and formed a committee to pacify the angry teachers but to no avail. Though the department has formed a committee to consider the promotion cases it is still adopting delaying tactics in hold the meeting thats why the promotion of these teachers has become an issue, they pointed out.
On the other hand, a group aggrieved teachers told The Nation that they would go all out to get their legitimate right. We will go on hunger strike and contact the Sindh Governor, the Chief Minister, Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq and the provincial ombudsman if the meeting does not hold this week, they warned.
