OUR STAFF REPORTER BAHAWALNAGAR - About 100-feet wide breach occurred in Hakara Canal near Rajuwala Donga Bonga, inundating cotton and paddy crops here on Monday. The breach occurred between Mouza Kat Lalika at section Ghulab Ali at midnight. Water gushing from the breach spread on large area. Because of no proper steps by the canal authorities, the breach spread widely. The local people rushed to the spot and demonstrated against the attitude of canal officials towards the incident and demanded stern action against the concerned officials. They alleged that it was not a breach but a cut made for water thief. The protesters also alleged that canal water theft had become a permanent feature. On this occasion Hakara Executive Engineer Islam Mustafa said that he and his staff rushed to the spot as soon as they get information and took measures to plug the breach and save the area from destruction.
