PIA sends pilgrims taking toilet rounds

LAHORE Several Umra passengers started vomiting and suffered loose motions immediately after they took the food supplied by PIA just before the takeoff at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Monday. Resultantly, the Jeddah-bound flight was delayed for more than six hours, sources in the national flag carrier disclosed. Doctors have sent the samples of the food to testing laboratory and PIA would be fined if the food was found poisonous or rotten. Sources said that Lahore-Jeddah PIA flight Pk-7623 was scheduled to be departed at 2:00 pm from Lahore but due to some technical reason was announced delayed by 8:00 pm. Meanwhile PIA staff served food to the angry passengers who were shouting slogans against PIA but the food added miseries of passengers when most of them started vomiting and faced loose motions. CAA management called the CAA doctors and health department to provide first aid to the suffering passengers. Station manager of PIA was also called who promised to supply new food but passengers refused to take new food. Sources informed that food was supplied by a restaurant operating at airport which was ISO certified but the management of the said hotel was not observing standards was involved in provision of substandard food to the passengers. They claimed that the hotel management was very influential and its credibility was also questioned in national assembly since it was owned by a big party running contracts at all the major airports of the country. A senior CAA officer seeking anonymity said that CAA was empowered to fine the airline. PIA spokesperson Aneesa Rehman said she dont know about the incident.
