Ramazan begins today

KARACHI (Agencies) - The Ramazan moon has been sighted in various parts of the country hence the holy month will be observed from August 2. The Ruet-i-Hilal Committee headed by Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman made an official announcement on Monday. Earlier, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee met for sighting of the Ramazan-ul Mubarak moon on Monday in Karachi at the Meteorological Office building. The meeting was attended by members of Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, Zonal Ruet Committee Karachi and officials of Met Office. Earlier, the unofficial Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of Peshawars Qasim Ali Khan Mosque had announced sighting of Ramazan moon on Sunday night and said the first of Ramazan will begin on Monday. After several witnesses confirming sighting of the moon, the local ulema announced the start of the holy month of Ramazan. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government said it had nothing to do with the announcement by Qasim Khan Mosque and did not validate it. Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of Qasim Ali Khan Mosque had met in Peshawar led by Mufti Shahabuddin. After receiving six witnesses including two from women, it made the announcement. Four men from Charsadda also gave the witness. Ulema in North Waziristan, Mohmand Agency and Miranshah also had announced to observe fast from Monday.
