LAHORE  - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf on Friday directed the police to step up clampdown on the criminals involved in robberies, kidnapping for ransom, and extortion.

The operations police chief also ordered the divisional police officers to ensure armed patrolling in the sensitive and crime-prone localities and set up surprise police pickets to intercept the movement of criminals.

According to a police spokesperson, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf issued these instructions to the officers while presiding over a meeting to review the crimes and law and order situation in Modal Town, Cantonment, Iqbal Town, and Sadar police divisions. Lahore Cantonment SP Sarfraz Ahmad Virk, Model Town SP Zahid Nawaz, Sadar division SP Awais Malik, Iqbal Town SP Dr Farrukh Raza and all the DSPs and SHOs concerned attended the meeting.

The DIG directed the divisional SPs to personally check the deployment of policemen in law and order duties. He further said that all available resources would be utilized to track down the criminals involved in heinous crimes.

On this occasion, he said that the police could thwart the nefarious designs of the anti-state elements and terrorists by implementing well-planned security strategies. The DIG also emphasized that the search and sweep operations should be carried out on daily basis in Lahore to monitor the activities of the miscreants and suspected militants. He also made it clear that the station house officers (SHOs) would not transferred sans a solid reason.

He ordered the field officers to speed up the process of data collection of those residing in rented accommodations in Lahore. Meanwhile, the divisional SPs briefed the DIG about the crimes situation in their respective areas and the major crimes incidents took place in Lahore during the last six months.
