Lahore - Former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani Friday said that the government has no threat from protests but it can collapse because of its own mistakes.

Talking to media persons here, Gilani said that Nawaz government seems in panic by Imran Khan's long march.

"Protests, long marches or sit-ins cannot derail democracy or remove the government but the current government could collapse by its own mistakes", the ex-PM said.

He said Model Town tragedy and decision to divert Qadri’s plane were unnecessary steps taken by Nawaz government. He advised the government not to panic and keep open the doors for negotiations.

Gilani said his government did not use Article 245 during lawyers’ long march and restored the judiciary without any conflict with the people. He said right to protest is an essential part of democracy.

Gilani also advised Imran Khan to hold peaceful protest and negotiate with the government for amicable solution.
