BAHAWALPUR - The Bahawalpur commissioner has found widespread apathy in cleanliness of tobas and supply of water to Cholistan, and in the use of substandard material in development projects being carried out under the Punjab CM’s development package for Cholistan.

Taking the notice of negligence and incompetence on the part of officials and workers, Commissioner Captain (r) Javed Akbar ordered the constitution of different investigation committees to monitor these projects. The committee members will monitor the projects by going directly at the location of the project in Cholistan. A strict action will be taken against the respective officials and workers who are involved in substandard work.

He said, “The implementation of Cholistan Developmental package in a transparent manner is a challenge for us and to fulfill this challenge all of us have to observe our duties and the government departments should work with mutual coordination.” He warned the officials concerned on receiving the report from local representatives regarding some faults in the cleaning of tobas. He directed them to escalate the work and complete the projects within two days. He also directed the officials to go into the fields to monitor the developmental works rather than doing the paperwork. He said that the officials found negligent and incompetent regarding their duties will not be tolerated and punishments will be imposed upon them. He added that to monitor the projects special system was being introduced so that the funds be used properly and people could take benefit from these projects.

He said that the Highway Department would construct a road with the funds of Rs300 million in Cholistan while small and medium roads will be constructed by the district administration. He added that special teams would monitor the tobas and water supply schemes.
