LAHORE - Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has accused India of making deliberate efforts at maligning Pakistan in the Mumbai mayhem, while Pakistan is already suffering from the same problem. He was addressing a function held here on Monday at a local hotel. Rehman Malik maintained that Pakistan was a sovereign state, and its independence would be protected at all costs. "Both counties cannot afford war, and people on both sides of the boundary line are against war," he said adding that those against the tension between Pakistan and India were trying to give colouring of their choice to the Mumbai carnage. He averred that in the post-9/11 situation, Pakistan was fighting against those groups behind the dastardly disasters. "Terrorism is the biggest reason behind the worst economic crisis. Presently, 1,25,000 armymen are deployed along the borders, and national resources are being used for this, which is adversely affecting the economy," he said. On violence in Karachi, Rehman Malik said the Chief Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain had telephoned him on Monday (yesterday), while all necessary actions were being taken because of which the law and order situation was under control. "Those blaming the MQM for the Karachi violence must realise now that the MQM is a political force and a big reality. Political activists, mostly Pathans, Balochs and of the MQM, have been killed, which is a conspiracy, and the elements behind this will be brought to the fore soon," he added. About the poor economic condition, he said the economy of the country had neither improved nor got damaged in the previous months. "The present government has taken tangible steps, while old problems adversely affecting economy, like that of water and power, will be resolved in the coming months," he added. 'War will split India to many Pakistans' President Shabab-e-Milli Pakistan Syed Shahid Gilani has said that India would be taught lesson for the 1971 conspiracy if it dared to wage war on the basis of Mumbai mayhem. He was addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club on Monday. Deputy Secretary Shabab-e-Milli Muhammad Imran and Secretary Information Imran Shahid were also present. Shahid Gilani said the war would split India to many Pakistans. He said that Pakistan never tried to take benefit from the unrest in the neighbouring country but India was eying on achieving set goals through war. He said that any hasty decision could prove fatal for India.
