NCM being reorganised for minorities' welfare: Bhatti

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti has said that National Commission for Minorities (NCM) is being reorganised for the welfare of minorities in the country. Talking to various delegations in his office here on Monday, the minister said that Pakistan, which is itself a victim of terrorism, is playing a key role against the menace. He said that Pakistan was a peace loving, democratic and progressive state which was taking concrete steps to have friendly relations with other neighbouring countries, combat terrorism and work for economic development and prosperity in the region. The minister said government and its people strongly condemn the recent acts of terrorism in Mumbai and share the grief with the Indian people but the Indian government should avoid issuing irresponsible statements in this regard. Shahbaz Bhatti said that the present government enjoys the full support and confidence of the entire nation on all initiatives being taken by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani for a durable peace in the region. He said that government was taking revolutionary steps for the prosperity and equal rights of marginalised segments of the society. The minister reiterated his strong resolve that concrete steps are being taken to make Pakistan a democratic and moderate state in the light of Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
