KARACHI - The Pakistan Olympic Association has announced to hold quadrennial elections of the suspended Pakistan Boxing Federation in the city on December 20 at a local hotel. The PSB and the POA jointly had suspended Prof. Anwar Chaudhry led PBF after it failed to hold election in time on July 25 last year. The Pakistan Boxing Federation breached its own rule when it failed to hold elections held every four years in time and extended its official tenure by setting November 18 as the date for the elections. But the POA and the PSB taking note in the delay of the elections suspended the PBF and had declared that the POA would announce the fresh date of elections and conduct the elections. The PBF officials had earlier denied suspension of their body but failed to hold their elections on its own date on November 18. The PBF officially was suspended for allegedly not conducting its quadrennial elections as scheduled on July 25 of this year. The PBF were officially told that as it had failed to complete its constitutional obligation to hold the elections on time, it had been suspended and informed them that POA and the PSB would hold future elections at a time and venue to be announced soon. The PBF had responded to an enquiry for delaying the elections by sending a letter in which it had given the reason for not holding election in time. In its letter the PBF said that it could not hold the annual general body for the elections because the audit report was not complete. Without the presentation of the audit report the general body meeting could be not be legalised. The PBF was the fourth national federation which has earned the wrath of the PSB and been disaffiliated for breaching PSB/POA rules. Only recently the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association were suspended and were restored only after it met all the conditions laid down by the PSB. According to details available here PBF had held its elections on July 24, 2004 and the office bearers held the posts for a four year term. The next elections were due on July 25, 2008 but for some technical reasons the PBF could not hold elections on due date. The major reason for delay in election was non completion of audited accounts of the body. Without the presentation of audited accounts at the annual general body, the elections could not be held. The company given the task to prepare audited accounts has promised to complete the paper some time before first week of November. In the light of this fact the PBF had set November 18 at the date for holding elections at Karachi. Though the PSB and the POA were informed about the date of elections yet the PSB decided to suspend the body for not holding elections in time.
