KARACHI - Sindh government on Monday night announced that all government and private schools and colleges would remain closed on Tuesday (today) due to terrible law and order situation in the metropolis. Sindh Education Department has become apathetic towards the problems of schools' students and their parents as the department had failed to decide whether the government and private schools will be opened on Tuesday or not. Citizens made calls at newspapers' offices till the filing of this report to inquire about the government's decision about the holiday. However, riots have been continued in several parts of the City. Nearly all the concerned government officials including Secretary Education Rizwan Memon and Educational District Officer (Education), had switched off their mobile phones to prevent their selves from public pressure. They showed similar behaviour on Sunday but City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal had announced at the eleventh hour that the public and private schools would remain closed on Monday due to riots. Conversely, such situation shows that there is no coordination between the City government and the Sindh government. Despite all the ill-performance of the education department under the auspicious of Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazher-ul-Haq, the department has inducted many education departments in its authority including Board of Intermediate Education Karachi and private schools. While Karachi University has notified that the university examinations including semester and evening programme examinations and other examinations of BA, BSc, BCom (Regular), BDS/MBBS First Professional (Part-I) scheduled to be held on 2nd and 3rd December 2008 have been postponed. However, examinations from December 4 will be held as per schedule. According to the notification issued on Monday, the new date of these postponed papers and examinations will be announced later, while offices of the Karachi University will remained open on the above dates. Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has announced that all type of examinations scheduled to be held on 2nd and 3rd December have been postponed. Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has also suspended its all examinations, which were scheduled to be held on December 2, and stated that the new date will be announced later.
