ISLAMABAD - Asif Memorial Club booked berth in the Super-8 stage of the Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) Cricket Championship after beating Margalla Club by 4 runs here at Bhutto Cricket Ground on Thursday.

Margalla Club opted to field first on a bowling-friendly track, as overnight moisture was helping the pacers. His decision paid off immediately as star all-rounder Ali Imran lost his wicket cheaply. After his departure, Shoaib Khaliq and Salman Haider studied the sinking ship with 70-run third-wicket stand, as skipper Raheel Majeed was not feeling well, otherwise he was automatic choice to open the innings. As soon as Shoaib and Salman were removed, Asif Memorial innings was folded at 198-9 in 40 overs. Salman Haider scored 60, M Irfan 45 and Shoaib 34. Ahsan and Tnaveer took two wickets each.

Margalla replied well as they put on 32 runs for the first wicket, before pacer Juniad Khan removed opener and one down batsman in quick succession. But Hassan then helped Margalla post 111-2 on the board in 19 overs. Tauseef removed Slazeen first at 52 and then Hassan at 47. At that moment, Margalla needed 13 runs in the last over with 5 wickets in hand. Irfan then played heroic role and not only stopped Margalla to achieve the target but also took a sensational wicket to give his side 4-run victory.

Asif Memorial Club president Ch Hassan Asghar and Ch Ajmal Sabir congratulated their team on brilliant comeback and announced Rs 10,000 cash award for the team members.
