KARACHI - The law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) have accelerated the drive against outlawed sectarian organisations by arresting over a dozen persons, including Karachi President of the defunct Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) Allama Rab Nawaz Hanafi, here on Thursday. ASWJ is the renamed sectarian outfit of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP). According to details, heavy contingents of Rangers carried out a targeted operation in Khamosh Colony, Gulbahar and nabbed over a dozen suspects.

Ranger’s personnel also seized weapons. Later they took away the suspects to an unknown location for interrogation. Several other activists associated with SSP have been arrested in various raids and operations from different parts of the city in the last couple weeks. On the other hand, Rangers also arrested Ejaz Alam, member of North Nazimabad sector of MQM, while another MQM activist Afzal aka Gorila was arrested in a raid conducted in Taiser Town, Surjani. Sources privy to the matter revealed that both MQM activists arrested had been associated with MQM London.
