ISLAMABAD - Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that media has a key role to play in assisting, guiding and advocating the government in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She said this while addressing a Conference on Sustainable Development Goals in the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Studies Islamabad on Thursday. She said Radio Pakistan and PTV have already begun social awareness campaign for education and information at grassroots level. The minister urged the media to highlight the positive and constructive efforts of the government instead of usual finger snapping.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said keeping in view the importance of media in achieving development agenda the Sustainable Development Goals have been included in course for parliamentary reporters. She said census is the need of the hour as there is no accurate data collection on population statistics. The minister said media having access in every nook and corner of the world, can enable the governments to fulfill this responsibility. She said health, education, gender equality, poverty alleviation and climate change are some of the most significant goals in the seventeen items list of SDGs and all-out efforts are being made to achieve the goals.
