Supreme Court (SC) has acquitted a death row convict in kidnapping for ransom case for want of evidence.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took up the case for hearing Friday.

One Shahid accused in kidnapping Nisar Ahmad, 26 for ransom from Lahore in 2011 was awarded capital punishment by Anti Terrorism Court (ATC). Lahore High Court (LHC) had upheld ATC decision.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked “ police fabricated a story to implicate the accused while the co-accused was released. No information about kidnapping was given to police. The abducted person was not recovered from the possession of the accused. The entire storey of kidnapping looks suspicious.

The court acquitted death convict Shahid.
