KARACHI - In a brazen targeted attack in Karachi, a Sindh Bar Council official was shot dead multiple times by armed face-covering motorcyclist in Karachi prompting provincial authorities to review the law and order situation in the province especially in Karachi. Police in district East confirmed it as a targeted killing act and said that Irfan Mehar, who is identified as a Sindh Bar Council official, was targeted by pillion-riding gunmen as he drove his car near Chappal Plaza in Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block-13. It emerged that he was returning home after dropping off his daughter at school when he was attacked. The body of the victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. CCTV footage of the incident showed two armed men spraying bullets inside his car and later leaving the spot without being in haste. The target killers apparently did not demand anything from the lawyer and rather opened fire on him after identifying him. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah taking notice of the targeted killing of a lawyer in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and increasing incidents of streets crime and circulation of narcotics items such as mainpuri, gutka, chaliya and others convened an emergent meeting to chalk out a strategy to control the situation. The meeting was attended by Advisor Law Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Additional IG Karachi Imran Yaqoob, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, SSP South Zubair Shaikh and others. The chief minister said that the targeted killing of lawyer Irfan Maher in Gulistan-e-Jauhar was quite a painful incident. “I want you to arrest the killers and bring them to book,” he directed the AIG Karachi.
