Mischief in the air

Would Prime Minister kindly tell us why Mr. Rehman Malik and Governor Punjab met MQM chief in London recently. Both are Presidents' close confidants who are acting beyond their job remit. The Governor is totally partisan, biased and prejudiced, which is tantamount to a breach of constitution meriting his dismissal. He invited Altaf Hussein to land in Punjab. Needless to mention, MQM leaders in Pakistan have demanded provincial autonomy verging on virtual separation. They are also inciting forces from Balochistan and NWFP in their mission. No less unconstitutional is the role of the President. He openly indulges in partisan politics, holds office of PPP chairmanship in violation of the constitutional norms. The PML-N and PML-Q, for the sake of Pakistan, should thwart the separatist movements against Pakistan by getting together. They must also take along pro Pakistan PPP leaders to rid the nation of the coterie of power-hungry, corrupts politicians that surround Mr. Zardari. -ABDULLAH MUSTAFA FIRDOUSI, Peshawar, via e-mail, January 21.
