HARIPUR - Personal security manager of PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and Finance Secretary of the party's NWFP chapter, Sher Azam Khan, was assassinated in his native town Khalabat, District Haripur, on Sunday. According to sources in the PML-N, Sher Azam Khan was going to his home in a car along with members of his family when some unidentified gunmen fired at their car. As a result of the incident, Sher Azam Khan, his wife, two sons and a sister-in-law were injured critically. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital where Sher Azam Khan succumbed to his injuries. The other injured persons of his family are also in critical condition, the sources added. Meanwhile, PML-N central leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sahibzada Pir Sabir Shah, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Capt (Retd) Safdar and Sardar Mushtaq Ahmed Khan have condemned the ruthless killing of Sher Azam Khan and demanded immediate arrest of his killers. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has also condemned the murder of the PML-N leader. TheNation reliably learnt from local sources that Sher Azam Khan has fallen prey of political rivalry between the local PML-N and ANP leadership, which in the past too had claimed the life of former provincial minister and ANP MPA Akhtar Nawaz Khan. The sources also added that political feud intensified between the two political families of Khalabat following the recent bye-elections for the provincial assembly seat, won by the ANP candidate and brother of the slain ANP leader, Akhtar Nawaz Khan.
