LAHORE - Holders Sindh will take on Punjab in the quarter-finals of National U13 Festival of Football 2009 on Monday at 12.30 PM. Sindh won both matches in Group-B beating Dir and Northern Areas by identical scoreline of 3-0 at Lahore's well-known Model Town Football Academy (MTFA) Ground. Former Champions Punjab is under the captaincy of Garhi Shahu United Football Academy (GSUFA)'s striker Adnan Ayub and they pulled themselves up in Group-D after 0-2 defeats at the hands of Karachi Red. But later on they brushed aside Lahore's Wohaib FC 4-1 to achieve berth in last eight. Punjab largely depend on stuff from GSUFA and other players of the Academy are keeper Zaman Zahid and left full Ali Ahmed Siddiqui. Adnan struck once for Punjab in 4-1 win over Wohaib and created the other for Yousof while Nawaz earned brace. Karachi Red will be hot favorites to beat depleted Northern Areas in the 2.30 PM Monday's quarter-final. The other quarter-finals will bring Sargodha and Balochistan against NWFP and Sahiwal respectively. Like Sindh, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Karachi Red also won both their matches in Group with respectable scorelines. The latter three are under AFC AID-27 Coaches Shahzad Anwar, Nauman Ibrahim and Nasir Ismail respectively while other team fielded through AFC AID-27 scheme, Dir, under Fazle Ghaffar, was luckless as they had to say good bye on tie-breaker. The teams already eliminated are Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Dir, Model Town Football Academy and Wohaib FC while Islamabad, FATA, Faisalabad's Punjab Medical College and Chanman's Afghan FC failed to turn up.According to Organizing Secretary Mian Rizwan Ali, the semi-finals will be played on 4 February at12.30 and 2.30 PM, followed by 5th February bronze-medal decider. The Grand final will be played on 6 Febraury (4 PM) and all the arrangements to host the final in befitting manner are being completed.
