LAHORE – Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Liaqat Baloch has blamed current chaos in the country hereditarily politics.

“The responsibility of prevailing crisis lay not with the Qaida but with the system, especially the distraction of political parties from their manifestoes. Most of the political parties talked about democracy but did not act upon their code of ethics and every party had turned into a family concern and hereditary,” he said while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Friday at which he announced the names of the newly elected members of the JI Shoora.

Liaqat Baloch said that military and civil bureaucracy had interfered in the country’s politics only because of the weaknesses of the political parties as these institutions were more powerful than the disorganized governments.

He said that the foremost serious issue of the country at present was to protect the present constitution. He said the JI firmly believed that no one could be allowed to adopt any supra constitution step in the present situation. He said that the situation in Karachi and Balochsitan was being worsened under a plan and in order to deprive the masses of their right to vote. However, he assured the people that no one would be permitted to do that.

He said that all the opposition parties would hold a sit in on February 4 in Karachi to stress for the implementation of the Supreme Court orders for the fresh demarcation of constituencies and verification of voters lists. He said that despite its serious reservation regarding President Zardari, the JI did not want to make any demands at this moment that could delay elections. He said the ruling alliance in Sindh comprising the PPP, the MQM and the ANP had created a situation in which the masses would take them to account, and not allow corrupt people to come into power again.

He said the JI would present within a few days, the list of its nominees for the interim set up including the Prime Minister, the Chief Ministers, to the Leader of the Opposition Ch. Nisar Ali Khan. He said the JI was the only party that acted on its constitution and manifesto, in which elections were held regularly. All of its office bearers from top to bottom were elected and every one of them was loyal to the party constitution. In JI decisions were taken not by an individual but by the elected Shoora (Consultative body). He said that majority of the newly elected members Shoora were educated people holding post graduate degrees.

In in a statement after telephonic talk with chief of Jamhoori Want Party, Talal Akbar Khan Bugti, JI Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan called upon the government to implement the Supreme Court orders allowing the people of the Bugti tribe to return to their homes and get their votes registered with the authorities concerned.

Talal Bugti contacted the JI Ameer on phone to point out that in spite of the apex courts orders, the authorities were creating hurdles in the return of Bugtis to their homes, and the killing of the Bugtis was going on as four of their men had been killed on Thursday.

Syed Munawar Hasan strongly condemned killing of Bugtis and said that the agencies and the administration were deteriorating the situation deliberately. He stressed upon the authorities to see reason. He warned that Balochistan was a virtually a volcano and it was better to control the situation by fulfilling the demands of justice.
