TORONTO (PR) - The Canada Pakistan Business Council (CPBC) hosted a lunch in honour of S M Muneer at the Richmond Hill Country Club recently. Muneer served as president of FPCCI and is currently the president of India-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IPCCI) and is Vice chairman for the MCB Bank Limited of Pakistan. S M Muneer has played a leading role in previous trade missions to Canada and the first ever single county exhibition in Canada. He has facilitated, received and hosted many trade missions from Canada to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Senator Salma Attaullah-Jan, the Consul General of Pakistan, Mohammed Nafees Zakaria; MPP Dr Shafiq Qaadri, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Director for Pakistan, Jacob Thoppil, President of the Mississauga Board of Trade, Sheldon Leiba, and CPBC Board members, advisors, special guests and media representatives.

CPBC Chairman Bryon Wilfert and CPBC President Samir Dossal welcomed the guest of honor representing FPCCI S M Muneer. In his remarks, Muneer said he would continue to extend full support and assistance to CPBC members during their visits to Pakistan for business. He also spoke of opportunities for Canadian businesses to invest in Pakistan in the power generation sector and export of high quality Canadian cattle and beef. He extended invitation to CPBC to lead a delegation to Pakistan this year.

The meeting served to re-establish and consolidate the memorandum of understanding that is in place between the FPCCI and CPBC.

The Consul General spoke about the need for improving business between both countries and emphasized the need to focus on positive image building for Pakistan in Canada. He appreciated CPBC’s commitment and major contributions to Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and their South Asian Gallery and in the South Asian Heritage Day celebrations with the ROM. This event will feature traditional arts and crafts from Pakistan including its unique Truck Art. CPBC’s Director Farah Shams is heading this project on behalf of the ROM. CPBC is lending full support and be part of this great image building opportunity in showcasing Pakistan.
