RAWALPINDI  - Criminal activities are on the rise within the precincts of Westridge Police Station.

Residents talking to INP complained that gangs of car lifters, robbers and dacoits roam freely in all the localities and deprive people of their valuables without being challenged by anyone.

They said that the situation in the areas give an impression that police do not exist anywhere to curb the crime. Moreover, the narcotics sale and gambling have also been going unchecked, due to the slackness of the police, who allegedly receive monthlies from criminals.

They demanded City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher to look into the matter and increase police patrolling in the areas to overcome increasing crimes.

Meanwhile, Waris Khan Police have busted three gangs involved in street crimes, car-lifting and sale of stolen cars’ spare parts in the last month, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Police Station Abdul Rashid said here on Friday.

Talking to APP, he said a special drive was launched following the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhar to take prompt action against anti-social elements and purge the area of criminals.

He said the police team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Waris Khan Circle Mirza Jamil Baig, arrested six accused and recovered snatched and stolen items including cars, motorcycles, engines of different make vehicles and several spare parts of the lifted-vehicles from their possession.

Giving details, the SHO said the police apprehended accused Nayyab s/o Abdul Rashid, Faisal Mehmood s/o Arshad and recovered a stolen car, mobile phones, computers and two kilograms of charas from them.

Besides, it nabbed Sharjeel Ahmed s/o Muhammad Shafiq and Zeeshan s/o Zameer Ahmed for their alleged involvement in street crimes and recovered a motorcycle, mobile phones and other stolen items, he said.
